There is a small chance I could end up in San Antonio for work around the time of the US Grand Prix. Obviously I would need to drive to Austin and attend at least part of the race if this happens.

Anyone have any advice/experience on affordable lodging if I get that chance? I mean, besides just sleeping in the rental car.

Thanks y’all!

Kinja'd!!!

I slept in a rental car at Le Mans that sucked. I used to live in San Antonio, but I had an apartment there so I’m not aware of any cheap lodging around either Austin or SA.

If you’re staying in San Antonio during the race, I’d simply forgo getting a room and commute. Austin and San Antone are not very far away from each other. It might be an hour and a half drive, with expected traffic.

Wouldn’t necessarily be there for the race. I probably have 2 hours of work to do in SA that would happen the Monday after the race. Normally I wouldn’t stay overnight but if my company is covering flights I’m going to take advantage of it.

Is there camping available? I definitely don’t mind that but the internet isn’t helping much.

I’ll be honest I don’t know, I was stuck working anytime there was anything cool going on at that circuit.

The superduty 8 lug rims make the US Grand Prix’s look bitchin.

The black part you see is all brake drum.

It’s cool. It looks like there’s a guy with property nearby who used to or maybe still offers camping on-site but his website hasn’t been updated since 2013. I guess I can just call if this job comes my way.

I would check rates in the towns just south of Austin (Buda and Kyle, on I-35). Just keep in mind that Austin doesn’t have Uber or Lyft, so if you were planning on drinking and catching a ride back to the hotel, that could be an expensive ride.

There are other cheap hotels in Austin, but they won’t be too inexpensive during the race.

Aren’t there like, eleventy billion Oppos who live in greater Austin? Surely there must be someone with a guest bed whom you don’t want to murder. And also, they don’t want to murder you.

(I know. I’m the weird type that would be all, “Oh, you’re Oppo and you need to crash in El Paso for a night? Yeah, you can totally stay in my guest room, even though I’ve never seen you even comment before, let alone the fact that this our first conversation.” So maybe no one in Austin is as wreckless as me. But I, for one, believe that Smobgirl has no murderous intentions.)

(So far.)

After all that excitement they’re probably not sending me anyway. THREE YEARS IN A ROW, DAMMIT. Noooo, I get to go to Boise instead.

But no, I’m generally not prone to murder :)

Are you actually in El Paso? I swear you guys have the best junk yards in the country.

I am, much to my chagrin. Which means that, if you suddenly decide to spend a day or seven browsing our ACRES AND ACRES (seriously, you’re not kiddin’, sister) of junkyards, you know you have a guest bedroom and a guest bathroom available to you. *thumbs up*
